Local Quaker Meetings
You do not have to be a Quaker to come to any of our local Meetings. All are welcome. Meetings for worship are held on Sundays, and some other days, at the times and places listed on the local Meeting pages, follow the links.
This area is rich in Quaker history and has some historic Meeting Houses and the "cradle" of Quakerism at 'Swarthmoor Hall' Ulverston, where George Fox gained the support of Margaret Fell in 1652. the Hall is still a beautiful and thriving Quaker Center.
Swarthmoor (SW Cumbria) Area Quakers comprises Colthouse, Cartmel, Swarthmoor and Windermere Meetings. It also includes the lovely old Meeting venue of Rookhow in the Rusland valley, and the historic Swarthmoor Hall. Members from Swarthmoor (SW Cumbria) Area meet nine times a year to conduct their meetings for church affairs providing the balance between worship, administration and social life.
